Free State Projects has previously supplied waste oil biodiesel and related by-products as part of our commitment to local solutions for local needs.
Further development of the algae biodiesel plant has been stalled due to 90% lack of funding. This is an extremely capital intensive project to get going and resources have not been sufficient to cover start-up costs.
As algae produces 10 times more oil than the next most productive land crop the amount of land required is drastically reduced. Also as this is not a food crop that’s being used to produce the oil this eliminates the food vs fuel debate and allows the technology to be readied for use in scrubbing the gasses of coal burning power stations.
We have the relevant partners, technology and designs for the algae plant and will continue to seek opportunities to enact this project where possible.
